Chase Sapphire Preferred

Chase Sapphire Preferred

Chase Sapphire Preferred

Pros

  • 50,000 UR signup bonus after $4,000 spend
  • Annual fee waived for the first year
  • 2X UR on travel and dining
  • Extensive transfer partners
  • Travel and purchase protection
  • No foreign transaction fees

Cons

  • Requires a lot of spend to be worth it after the first year
  • Sapphire Reserve just usurped it

Summary

This a solid credit card overall. It leads its segment, and has a great signup bonus and earning power. The Sapphire Reserve's existence does make it a less compelling option, though. The bonus is almost enough to transfer out for a roundtrip to Europe, or redeem for $625 through the Chase UR Portal. The customer service team is truly good, and goes above and beyond the standard in the industry.

55k signup bonus. 2x on travel and restaurants. Used to be a dream-card. However I don’t see the point of keeping this CSP when you have CSR in your hand.

This was my go to card until the Chase Sapphire Reserve came out. I captured the bonus early on. It is a good stepping stone up to the Reserve, but if you have it, it is no longer worth the annual fee. I recommend a product change down to the Freedom in order to preserve the credit line.
